Advanced Technology

At Apex Oral Maxillofacial Surgery & Implantology, our advanced technologies ensure accuracy, efficiency, and comfort at every step of your care — from diagnosis through surgery and follow-up.

3D Cone Beam CT Imaging

An image of a CS 9300 scanning system

Three dimensional CT scan technology helping Drs. Torio, Decoteau, Burk, Madden, and Farr diagnose potential issues more accurately and treat with unprecedented confidence.

Unlike a traditional spiral CT scanner, the 3D system produces precise, crystal-clear digital images while minimizing your exposure to radiation — a ten-second scan creates a detailed 3D image of the structures of your head and neck (nerves, teeth, bone, jaws), used for diagnosis, treatment planning, patient education, and follow-up.

The scanner lets us choose the field of view that best suits your specific treatment, further limiting radiation exposure by focusing only on the area of concern.

It also enables a wider range of diagnoses and treatments in our office, reducing multiple visits — and lets our surgeons quickly share 3D images with your referring doctor so your care team can collaborate on the best outcome.

Guided Implant Surgery with Custom 3D Guides

Placing dental implants accurately is critical to restoring the form and function of the mouth. By merging the images created by our cone beam CT and intra-oral scanner, our surgeons perform a “virtual” surgery on the computer to position implants ideally before your procedure. A laboratory fabricates a custom surgical guide from that virtual plan, and the guide is worn at the time of surgery, making the procedure faster, predictable, and precise.

Digital Imaging & Diagnostics

  • Digital X-Rays — Magnified, enhanced images for better diagnosis and treatment with far less radiation than traditional film, captured quickly and easily.
  • Panoramic X-Ray — Rotates 360° around your head to capture your teeth, sinuses, and jaws in a single image — a more complete picture than standard x-rays and a valuable resource for diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Nomad™ Handheld X-Ray — A battery-powered, completely cordless system that takes accurate scans with less radiation exposure than most conventional systems, usable in any treatment room.
  • Intra-Oral Scanner — A small hand-held wand that takes a quick, accurate 3D digital scan of your teeth and gums, replacing traditional impression material, which is susceptible to distortion. The scan is sent electronically to your dentist’s lab, meaning less time in the chair and a faster turnaround on your restoration.
  • Photogrammetry Scanning — used for full arch restoration
